All the news from Bethesda at E3 2017
Virtual reality, Wolfenstein and The Evil Within 2 steal the spotlight during Bethesda showing.
Following the success of last year, Bethesda has returned with even more goodies up their sleeves for gamers at this year's E3 event.
After a short recap of the last year for the studio, including a look at DOOM, Dishonored 2, Prey and Skyrim Special Edition, Bethesda jumped right into the good stuff, starting with...
Fallout VR and DOOM VFR launching this year
As expected, virtual reality played a major part in Bethesda's E3 2017 showing. The studio showed off Fallout 4 VR, which "includes the complete core game with all-new combat, crafting, and building systems fully reimagined for virtual reality." It's coming exclusively to HTC Vive.
DOOM VFR (no point for guessing what the F stands for...) will arrive on HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. It looks like an new game made specifically for virtual reality, according to this press release:
"Set shortly after the demonic invasion on the UAC's Martian research facility, you are the last known human survivor - until your death. Under a top-secret UAC operational contingency protocol, your consciousness is transferred to an artificial brain matrix. Your designated purpose: restore operational stability and use any means necessary to stop the onslaught of demons."
Content Club announced for Skyrim and Fallout 4
A new system that allows for content creators to earn cash for their mods was revealed during the Bethesda presentation.
The 'Content Club' will be available for both Skyrim and Fallout 4, and "features new items, abilities, and gameplay created by Bethesda Games Studios and outside development partners including the best community creators. Creation Club content is fully curated and compatible with the main game and official add-ons."
Content will be available to purchase on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Skyrim for Switch features Legend of Zelda amiibo support
Bethesda gave us a look at how Skyrim is coming along for Nintendo Switch, confirming that the game will have special support for some Amiibo figures...
Skyrim on Switch will support the Link amiibo, which will unlock the Master Sword, Hyrule Shield and Link's Breath of the Wild tunic for use in-game. Other Zelda series amiibos will yield different rewards.
It's worth noting that Skyrim for Switch won't use the updated graphics from Skyrim Special Edition, but will include all additional DLC content. It's coming out before Christmas, apparently.
Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider DLC launching in September
Dishonored 2 is slated to get its first piece of story DLC this September, when Death of the Outside releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
It's looking like the DLC will be playable as a standalone release, but we'll avoid getting into details about where it stands chronologically compared to the rest of the series out of fear of spoiling it. If you're interested, we recommend watching the trailer.
Wolfenstein’s BJ Blazkowicz added to Quake Champions roster
Starting from today, Quake Champions beta testers can play as BJ Blazkowicz from the Wolfenstein series.
Bethesda also announced that the Quake World Championships, an event '20 years in the making', will boast a $1 million prize pool when the event gets underway this summer in Texas.
Quake Champions is predicted to launch before the end of the year, but you can hop into the beta now if you just can't wait.
The Evil Within 2 is coming
A sequel to 2013's The Evil Within was unveiled for the first time during the Bethesda presentation, much to the delight of horror fans.
Read a brief description of The Evil Within 2 from the game's developer:
You are Detective Sebastian Castellanos and at your lowest point. But when given a chance to save your daughter, you must enter a world filled with nightmares and discover the dark origins of a once-idyllic town to bring her back. Horrifying threats emerge from every corner as the world twists and warps around you. Will you face adversity head on with weapons and traps, or sneak through the shadows to survive? This is your one chance at redemption, and the only way out is in.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus revealed with new trailer
Bethesda closed the show by revealing Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus for the first time, and it looks nuts.
We recommend feasting your eyes on the trailer, which features more crazy guns and Nazis than you can shake a stick at. If you can't check it out yet, the developer's official description is a good substitute:
Your assassination of Nazi General Deathshead was a short-lived victory. Despite the setback, the Nazis maintain their stranglehold on the world. You are BJ Blazkowicz, aka "Terror-Billy," member of the Resistance, scourge of the Nazi empire, and humanity's last hope for liberty. Only you have the guts, guns, and gumption to return stateside, kill every Nazi in sight, and spark the second American Revolution.
