Nintendo's NES Classic Mini Is Being Discontinued
Prepare your goodbyes.
UPDATE: The NES Classic Mini has also been discontinued in Europe as well as in Japan, meaning the console is out of print worldwide. The original story is below:
Nintendo's compact NES Mini system is being discontinued, as well as the NES Classic Controller. The company has confirmed to IGN that the last shipments of the NES Classic Mini would be shipped to retailers throughout the rest of this month.
Here's Nintendo's statement to IGN:
"Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologise. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product".
Nintendo also stated that "NES Classic Edition wasn't intended to be an ongoing long - term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans".
Nintendo doesn't have any plans to produce any more Classic NES Mini systems for North America; there's no word about Europe at this moment in time, as Nintendo of America wouldn't confirm whether this announcement meant the discontinuation of the NES Classic worldwide. The continuation of third party accessories will be up to each individual manufacturer.
